Is Supplementing Right For You?

Everywhere you look, there is someone talking about the supplements they are taking.

Protein powder…fish oil…fat burners…

There is something out there for every goal you have.  But do you need to use supplements to reach your goals?

Not necessarily…but they may help.

Let’s take a look at what supplements are—and then decide if they’re right for you.

Supplements are simply a way to “supplement” your diet, to ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need.

A great example is taking a daily multivitamin.  Unless your diet is on point, you may not be getting all the vitamins, minerals, or antioxidants your body needs to stay healthy.

The same goes for protein, and Probiotics.

Basically, you’re giving your body everything it needs—especially if your diet is not 100% perfect all the time.

This is one of the reasons why I highly recommend you “supplement” your diet—so you can be sure you’re getting everything you need each day.

So what should you take?

1. Multi-vitamin/mineral Supplement

If you’re not eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day, then a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement is considered a must.   A multivitamin/mineral supplement helps supply the nutrients your body needs to power the trillions of functions that occur in your body every second.

Even if you do eat a pretty sound diet, a daily multi may still be important.  Due to the soil being depleted of nutrients, over-processed fruits and vegetables, and pesticides may lead to fruits and vegetables being void of nutrients.  A daily multi could be an easy way to correct this deficiency each day.

2. Essential Fatty Acid

Essential fatty acids are necessary for optimal functioning of the cells in your body.  They are called “essential” because your body can’t produce them.  They are very important to your body, as they help with cellular signaling, and protecting the integrity of your cells.

The average person is often deficient in these fats, thanks to their diet.  By taking an essential fatty acid supplement, you could help correct this deficiency, and improve your overall health, lower the risk for heart disease, and may even improve brain health.

3. Protein Powder

If you want to get stronger, increase your metabolism, or boost enzyme and hormone production, then you need adequate protein.  And a good protein supplement can help with this.

Most protein supplements contain over 20g of protein, which is ideal for boosting the production of lean muscle mass.  Not only does it help increase your protein intake, it may also suppress your appetite, and give you the “lean” look you’re after .

Supplements are used to “supplement” your diet for nutrients you may be lacking in, or not getting at all.  Although not necessary, the right supplement could speed up your progress, and fortify your diet.
